At the local coffee shop they sell a reusable mug for $6. If you use the mug for a refill, the refill costs $1.30. Last month Jason spent $29.40 for the mug and refills. Write and solve an equation to determine the number of refills, r, Jason purchased last month?

There are two variables, money spent and mugs number

X = number of mugs

Y= number of refills

then money spent equation is

6X + 1.30Y = 29.40

Only one mug was purchased , so then X = 1

6•1 + 1.3Y = 29.40

Y = (29.40 - 6)/1.3

Y = 18 refills
