We can divide the street sign in three figures. First, we can make a rectangle with the post:

the area of this rectangle is:

A_r=(8)(75)=600in^2

next, with the sign we can make a square and a rectangle like this:

which have the following areas:

\begin{gathered} A_s=(12)(12)=144in^2 \\ A_t=((12)(4))/(2)=(48)/(2)=24in^2 \end{gathered}

Now we add all the areas to get the total painted area:

A=A_r+A_s+A_t=600+144+24=768in^2

therefore, the painted area is 768 in^2
