SOLUTION

The given equatiion is:

3x^4-5x^2-20x+8

To be divided by x-1

set the expression to zero:

\begin{gathered} x-1=0 \\ x=1 \end{gathered}

Substitute x=1 into the polynomial:

3(1)^4-5(1)^2-20(1)+8

This gives:

3-5-20+8=-14

Therefore the remainder is -14.
