we know that

The surface area of the cylinder is equal to

SA=2B+C\cdot h

where

B is the area of the circular base

C is the circumference of the circular base

so

we have

r=23/2=11.5 yd -----> radius is half the diameter

pi=3.14

h=28 yd

\begin{gathered} B=\pi\cdot r^2 \\ B=3.14\cdot11.5^2 \\ B=415.265\text{ yd\textasciicircum{}2} \end{gathered}

Find the circumference C

\begin{gathered} C=\pi\cdot D \\ C=3.14\cdot23 \\ C=72.22\text{ yd} \end{gathered}

Find the surface area

\begin{gathered} SA=2\cdot415.265+72.22\cdot28 \\ SA=2,852.69\text{ yd\textasciicircum{}2} \end{gathered}
