The general slope intercept equation is

y=mx+b

m is the slope and b is the y=intercept. slope is

\begin{gathered} m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1) \\ m=(-9-5)/(-7+1) \\ m=(-14)/(-6) \\ m=(7)/(3) \end{gathered}

so the equation becomes,

y=(7)/(3)x+b

From the first set of given points, substituting for y,

\begin{gathered} 5=-(7)/(3)+b \\ b=5+(7)/(3) \\ b=(15+7)/(3) \\ b=(22)/(3) \end{gathered}

Thus the point slope formula is

y=(7)/(3)x+(22)/(3)
