Given -

Martin sold = 1,250 tickets

The total amount collected for the game = $2,750

The student tickets cost = $2 each

The adult tickets cost = $3 each

To Find -

How many student and adult tickets were sold?

Step-by-Step Explanation -

Let

x = number of students tickets

y = number of adults tickets

Now,

According to the question:

x + y = 1, 250 ......(1)

2x + 3y = 2, 750 .......(2)

Now,

Multiply equation (1) by 2

2x + 2y = 2, 500 ......(3)

Now,

(2) - (3) =

2x + 3y - 2x - 2y = 2750 - 2500

y = 250

Now,

Put y = 250 in equation (1)

x + 250 = 1250

x = 1250 - 250

x = 1000

Final Answer -

Number of students tickets sold = 1000

Number of adults tickets sold = 250
