To subtract one expression from the other we:


(2x^2-8)-(5x^2+3x-4)

We take out the parenthesis and start to solve:


2x^2-8+5x^2-3x+4

Notice that all the signs in the second parenthesis changed because there was a minus sign before the parenthesis. We add similar components:


7x^2-3x-4
