Determine the x-intercept of the line which contains the following points. (-7,-18) and (4,4)

step 1

Find the slope m

m=(4+18)/(4+7)

m=22/11

m=2

step 2

Find the equation in slope intercept form

y=mx+b

we have

m=2

point (4,4)

substitute

4=2(4)+b

solve for b

4=8+b

b=-4

therefore

y=2x-4

step 3

Find the x-intercept

Value of x when the value of y is zero

so

For y=0

0=2x-4

2x=4

x=2

the x-intercept is the point (2,0)
