Statement Problem: Determine if it opens up or down and find the axis of symmetry. Given the function;

f(x)=-2x^2+12x-15

Solution:

The graph of the function is;

Thus, from the graph. It shows it opens down.

The axis of symmetry is;

x=-(b)/(2a)

From the given function;

\begin{gathered} f(x)=ax^2+bx+c \\ f(x)=-2x^2+12x-15 \\ a=-2,b=12,c=-15 \end{gathered}

Thus, the axis of symmetry is;

\begin{gathered} x=-(12)/(2(-2)) \\ x=-(12)/(-4) \\ x=3 \end{gathered}
