The county recreation department cleared a 3/4 mile long walking trail in Nashville. There will be a small sign every 1/12 mile along the trail. Including the beginning and end of the trail, how many signs are needed?

From the above diagram, we get that we need a total of:


\frac{(3)/(4)\text{mile}}{(1)/(12)\text{mile}}+1

signs.

Simplifying the above result we get:


((3)/(4))/((1)/(12))+1=(3\cdot12)/(4\cdot1)+1=9+1=10.

Answer: 10 signs.
