Given the data set:

4, 8, 2, 9, 5, 9, 9, 5

number of data, n = 8

a) Mean

The mean of a data set is the average.

To find the mean we have:

\begin{gathered} \operatorname{mean}=(4+8+2+9+5+9+9+5)/(8) \\ \\ \operatorname{mean}=(51)/(8)=6.375\approx6.4 \end{gathered}

b) Median

The median is the middle number of the data when arranged in acsending order.

To find the median, arrange the numbers from the smallest to the gretatest(ascending order).

2, 4, 5, 5, 8, 9, 9, 9

We have the two median numbers: 5 and 8

Thus, the median is:

\begin{gathered} (5+8)/(2) \\ \\ =(13)/(2) \\ \\ =6.5 \end{gathered}

c) Mode

The mode is the term that occurs the most.

From the data given, the term that occurs the most is 9 because it cccured three times.

Therefore, the mode is = 9

d) Range

The range is the difference between the highest term and the smallest term.

To find the range, subtract the smallest number from the greatest number.

Smallest number = 2

Greatest number = 9

Range = Greatest number - Smallest number

Range = 9 - 2 = 7

Therefore, the range is 7

ANSWER:

Mean = 6.4

Median
