UnderlineTo solve an equation for a variable so you must do these steps

1. Under line the variable

2. put it on one side and all other terms on the other side

3. make its coefficient = 1

Let us do that with our equation

We want to solve it for y

So we need to put y alone on the left side

To move 4x to the other side subtract 4x from both sides

4x - 4x + 5y = 13 - 4x

5y = 13 - 4x

We need to make the coefficient of y = 1

So divide each term in the equation by 5

(5y)/(5)=(13)/(5)-(4x)/(5)
y=(13)/(5)-(4)/(5)x
