We know that the recipe calls for 1 1/4 c of chocolate chips.

If we have to triple the recipe, it means we have to multiply the given amount of chocolate chips by 3.

1(1)/(4)\cdot3

First, we should transform the mixed number into a fraction.

(1\cdot4+1)/(4)\cdot3=(5)/(4)\cdot3=(15)/(4)

Then, we divide to express the fraction as a mixed fraction.

(15)/(4)=3.75=3(3)/(4)

Therefore, the amount of chocolate chips would be 3 3/4.
