The formula for throwing a baseball in the air is represented by :h = -16t² + 12t + 40where h is the height of the ball and t is the time in secondsNow we need to find after how many seconds will the ball hit the groundWhen the ball hits the ground the height of the ball is 0

We will determine the time as follows:

-16t^2+12t+40=0\Rightarrow t=\frac{-(12)\pm\sqrt[]{(12)^2-4(-16)(40)}}{2(-16)}
\Rightarrow\begin{cases}t=-(5)/(4) \\ \\ t=2\end{cases}

So, at t = 2 the ball will hit the ground.
