The given equation is

-3x-9=x-1

First, we have to sum 9 on each side

\begin{gathered} -3x-9+9=x-1+9 \\ -3x=x+8 \end{gathered}

Now, we subtract x on each side

\begin{gathered} -3x-x=x+8-x \\ -4x=8 \end{gathered}

At last, we divide the equation by -4

\begin{gathered} (-4x)/(-4)=(8)/(-4) \\ x=-2 \end{gathered}

Therefore, the solution is -2.
