thus, we have our first equation

a - b = 6 -----> (i)

also, the sum of the two numbers is 14.

thus, our second equation

a + b = 14 ----> (ii)

adding equations (i) and (ii), we get

2a = 20

a = 20/2

therefore, a = 10

putting the value of "a" in equation (ii), we get

10 + b = 14

b = 14 - 10

therefore, b = 4

Now that we have found both of the values of "a" and "b", we can definitely come into the conclusion that "a" is the bigger number.
