Let:


\begin{gathered} -8x+y=-6_{\text{ }}(1) \\ -4x-2y=12_{\text{ }}(2) \end{gathered}

Using elimination method:


\begin{gathered} (1)-2(2)\colon \\ -8x-(-8x)+y-(-4y)=-6-24 \\ 5y=-30 \\ y=-(30)/(5) \\ y=-6 \end{gathered}

Replace the value of y into (1):


\begin{gathered} -8x-6=-6 \\ -8x=-6+6 \\ -8x=0 \\ x=(0)/(-8) \\ x=0 \end{gathered}
