We have to consider that gene editing is the facility we have to change our DNA or the DNA of other species by the use of biotechnology tools, such as CRISPR. This process can be done to modify our, or the genetic material of other species in hence to reproduce the desired phenotype. An example of this can be transgenic food, such as tomatoes, which, once genetically modified, can be resistant to some plagues, for example.
This technique in fact can extend the human being's life span because it can also be applied to get rid of diseases, for example, by using this gene therapy upon pathologies such as diabetes. Although, this technique is still to be improved for its work directly in human beings, because this process is possible by adding or deleting fragments of our DNA, and currently it could be that mistakenly a non-desired fragment of DNA can be removed, causing worts pathologies or conditions.
The picture below shows us different techniques that have been used to edit the genome, including CRISPR.
