\begin{gathered} -2(y-4)=20-2y-12 \\ \text{Multiply the parenthesis by negative 2 and you now have} \\ -2y+4=20-2y-12 \\ \text{Collect like term and you have} \\ -2y+2y=20-12-4 \\ 0=4 \end{gathered}

Zero equals 4 is an impossible equation. Therefore the equation has no solution, or is impossible to solve.
