I believe the figure is a parallelogram. Therefore, opposite sides are equal


\begin{gathered} 6x-12=2x+36 \\ 6x-2x=36+12 \\ 4x=48 \\ x=(48)/(4)=12 \end{gathered}
\begin{gathered} 4y=6y-42 \\ 4y-6y=-42 \\ -2y=-42 \\ y=(-42)/(-2) \\ y=21 \end{gathered}
