Solution:

Given:

Two rectangles of different scales.


A\colon B=1\colon7

Figure A is smaller in size to figure B. This is also seen from the scale given.

Hence, the length of side x when the length of figure A is 8m is gotten by;


\begin{gathered} A\colon B=1\colon7 \\ A\colon B=8\colon x \\ \\ \text{Equating both ratios,} \\ 1\colon7=8\colon x \\ (1)/(7)=(8)/(x) \\ \text{Cross multiplying,} \\ x=7*8 \\ x=56m \end{gathered}

Therefore, the length of side x is 56 meters.
