We have to find the relation between the area of the ceiling and the number of tiles.

We know that there is a proportional relationship between them, so we need only one point to know the relationship:

x=k\cdot a

When x=10.7, a=1, so we can replace them in the equation in order to find the constant k:

\begin{gathered} 10.7=k\cdot1 \\ k=(10.7)/(1)=10.7 \end{gathered}

So we can write the relationship as x = 10.7 * a.
