-4x + 2y = 8

add 4x to both-side of the equation

-4x + 4x + 2y = 8 + 4x

2y = 8 + 4x (additive property)

divide through the equation by 2

2y/2 = 8/2 + 4x/2

y = 4 + 2x (division property)
