Given:-

Over the last three evenings, Maria received a total of 54 phone calls at the call center. The second evening, she received 10 fewer calls than the first evening. The third evening, she received 2 times as many calls as the first evening.

To find:-

How many phone calls did she receive each evening.

Let x be the number of calls recived on first evening.

Second day she recived 10 fewer calls. so we get,

x-10

Third day she recived 2 times as many calls as the first evening. so we get,

2x

Over the last three evenings she recived 54 phone calls. so we get,

\begin{gathered} x+x-10+2x=54 \\ 4x-10=54 \\ 4x=54+10 \\ 4x=64 \\ x=16 \end{gathered}

So the value of x is 16.

Now we find the number of phone calls the first evening is x. so the required value is 16.

Number of phone calls the second evening is x-10. so the required value is 6.

Number of phone calls the third evening is 2x. so the required value is 32.
