Each van and each bus carried the same number of students. How many students can a van carry? How many students can a bus carry?

14v + 12b = 612 ...(1)

14v + 26b = 1,032 ...(3)

-14b = -420

b = 30

7v + 13(30) = 516

7v + 390 = 516

7v = 126

v = 18

therefore 1 bus carries 30 students and 1 van carries 18 students
