We want to find the solution for the following equation:

-5+(x)/(2)=-9

If we add the same values on both sides of the equation, the equality stays true. If we add 5 to both sides, we're going to have:

\begin{gathered} -5+(x)/(2)+5=-9+5 \\ (x)/(2)+5-5=-4 \\ (x)/(2)=-4 \end{gathered}

If we multiply both sides by the same constant, the equality also remains. Multiplying both sides by 2, we have our answer:

\begin{gathered} 2\cdot(x)/(2)=2\cdot(-4) \\ x=-8 \end{gathered}

And this is our solution

x=-8
