5x+14-4x=23+x-9

First, we separate all the terms with x in one side and the other terms on the other side of the equality. To do this, we apply the opposite operation,

\begin{gathered} (5x+14-4x)-14-x=(23+x-9)-14-x \\ 5x-4x-x=23-9-14 \\ 0x=0 \end{gathered}

Then, it doesn't matter the value of x, every real number satisfies the equality.
