Linear equation

By definition is any equation that satisfy the following equation:

y=mx+b

Where m is the slope and b the intercept. Where m is just the rate of change of the dependent variable respect to the independent variable

And b represent the y intercept for the equation

Example

y= 2x+1

For this equation we can see that m = 2 and b=1

Let's asusme that we have two points given (2,2) and (3,5) and we want to find the slope. We can use this formula:

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

And replacing we got:

m = (5-2)/(3-2)= 3/1= 3

And then the slope can be founded using one point for example x=2 y=3 and we have:

2= 3(2)+b

b= 2-6= -4

And our equation would be:

y= 3x -4

For this case we can select two points (4,100) and (12,300). and we can find the slope:

m=(300-100)/(12-4)= 200/8= 100/4= 25

And then we can find the intercept on this way. Using the point x=4 and y= 100 we have:

100= 25(4) +b

And solving for b we got:

b= 100-100=0

And we got:

y= 25x
