We can easily solve this equation with the elimination method, by subtracting the second equation from the first one we can get rid of variable y and then we get:

-2x + y - (-4x + y) = 1 - (-1)

-2x + y + 4x - y = 1 + 1

-2x + 4x + y - y = 2

2x = 2

2x/2 = 2/2

x = 1

By replacing 1 for x into the first equation and solving for y, we get:

-2(1) + y = 1

-2 + y = 1

-2 + 2 + y = 1 + 2

y = 3

Then, x = 1 and y = 3
