Nicky has 5 fewer than Harry

Assume that Harry has x points

His points is half the points of Butch

So Butch has 2 x points

Since Nicky has 5 less than Harry

So Nicky has x - 5

H = x

N = x - 5

B = 2 x

Their sum is 31 point

so add them to find x

x + x - 5 + 2x = 31

Add the like terms in the left side

(x + x + 2x) - 5 = 31

4 x - 5 = 31

Add 5 to both sides

4 x - 5 + 5 = 31 + 5

4x = 36

Divide both sides by 4

4x/4 = 3
