Answer: 4 and 2

Explanation:

a + b = 6

a - b = 2

Sum these equations, we get 2a = 8, then a = 4

Substitute to one of these equations, we get 4 - b = 2, so b = 2

Prove: The sum of 24 and 42 is 66, and 4 and 2 differ by 2 are both correct!
