y=3 sin(pi/4x - pi/4)

The equation is in the form

y = A sin ( Bx -C) +D

We want to find the phase shift ( horizontal shift)

C/B is the phase shift

B = pi/4

C = pi /4

C/B = (pi/4)/ ( pi/4) = 1

The phase shift = 1

Y=5/2 -1/2 sin(3x +pi)

B = 3

C = - pi

C/B = -pi/3

The horizontal shift is the c value
