Number of pulse rates = 5

Total value of the pulse rates = 57 + 55 + 62 + 83 + x

Total value of the pulse rates = 257 + x

Mean = 65.4

Mean = (Total value of the pulse rates) / (Number of pulse rates)

65.4 = (257 + x) / 5

Cross multiply:

65.4(5) = 257 + x

327 = 257 + x
