We are asked to solve the equation

(1)/(2)(2x-4)+x=8

Let us expand the left-hand side and we get

x-2+x=8

Adding like terms on the left-hand side gives

2x-2=8

And adding 2 to both sides get us

2x=10

Finally, dividing both sides by 2 gives

\textcolor{#FF7968}{x=5.}

which is our answer!
