The diagram representing the scenario is shown below:

Line AC represents the distance that her trainer biked. This is the hypotenuse of the right angled triangle. We would determine AC by applying pythagoras theorem which is expresed as

hyotenuse^2 = opposite side^2 + adjacent side^2

AC^2 = 16^2 + 12^2 = 256 + 144 = 400

Taking square root of both sides,

AC = 20

The distance biked by the trainer is 20 miles
