Problem

The height of a particular species of tree, in feet, x years after it is planted can be modeled by the

linear function h(x) = 5.27 – 3.12x. Which of the following best interprets the y-intercept of the

linear model?

Solution

For this case we need to remember the general expression for a line given by:

y = mx+ b

Where m = slope and b the intercept

And by direct comparison we can see that b = 5.27, then the intercept would be 5.27
