Given:

\begin{gathered} Perimeter=74feet \\ length=2* width-2feet \end{gathered}

To Determine: The dimension of the patio

Solution

The formula for finding the perimeter of a rectangle is

\begin{gathered} P=2(l+w) \\ Given \\ l=2w-2 \\ P=2(2w-2+w) \\ P=2(3w-2) \\ Note,P=74feet \end{gathered}

Therefore

\begin{gathered} 2(3w-2)=74 \\ 3w-2=(74)/(2) \\ 3w-2=37 \\ 3w=37+2 \\ 3w=39 \\ w=(39)/(3) \\ w=13feet \end{gathered}
\begin{gathered} l=2w-2 \\ l=2(13)-2 \\ l=26-2 \\ l=24feets \end{gathered}

Hence the dimension of the patio is 24feets by 13feets
