We can use the following general rule for the surface area of a square pyramid:

A=2bs+b^2

in this case, we have the following:

\begin{gathered} b=8 \\ s=10 \end{gathered}

then, using the formula, we get:

\begin{gathered} A=2(8)(10)+(8)^2=160+64=224 \\ \Rightarrow A=224\operatorname{cm}^2 \end{gathered}

therefore, the surface area is 224 cm^2
