Solution

Given

2y + 7x = -5 -----(1)

5y - 7x = 12 -------(2)

adding (1) + (2)

7y = -5 + 12

=> 7y = 7

=> y = 1

Substituting 1 = y in equation (1)

2y + 7x = -5

=> 2 + 7x = -5

subtracting 2 from both sides

=> 7x = -5 -2

=> 7x = -7

=> x = -1

Hence, x = -1 and y = 1
