Scientific notation: a form of presenting large or small numbers in a simpler form.

• The ,exponent, is ,positive, if the number is very ,large.

• The ,exponent ,is ,negative ,if the number is very ,small.

• The ,base ,is ,always 10.

In our case, as our number is a large one, we will have a positive exponent, and we have to count the spaces we will move the point to know which will be our final result:

If we count the spaces, we will see that there are 8, as shown in the image above.

Then, our number is:


408,000,000=4.08*10^8
