Solution

We want to evaluate 4x² + 6xy - y² when x = 4 and y = 6

\begin{gathered} =4(4)^2+6(4)(6)-(6^2) \\ =4(16)+144-36 \\ =64+144-36 \\ =172 \end{gathered}

The answer is 172
