To make a rational expression equal to zero equate its numerator (up) by 0 and find the value of x

Since the given rational expression is

(2x+16)/(x+5)

Since the numerator is (2x + 16), then equate it by 0 and solve to find x

2x+16=0

Subtract 16 from both sides

\begin{gathered} 2x+16-16=0-16 \\ 2x=-16 \end{gathered}

Divide both sides by 2

\begin{gathered} (2x)/(2)=(-16)/(2) \\ x=-8 \end{gathered}

The answer is B
