Let x = number of dimes

y = number of quarters

y = x+2 since she has 2 more quarters than dimes, we need to add 2 to make them equal

4.00 = .25y + .1x

Multiply the second equation by 100

400 = 25y +10x

Writing in slope intercept form

400-10x = 25y

Divide by 25

400/25 - 10x/25 = 25y/25

16-2/5x = y

y = -2/5x +16

The first equation has a slope of 1 and a y intercept of 2

The second equation has a slope of -2/5 and a y intercept of 16

They intersect at x = 10 and y =12

She has 10 dimes and 12 quarters

Taylor has $4 worth of dimes and quarters. She had 2 more quarters than dimes. Graphically-example-1
