The expression for the slope of a line is express as :

\text{ Slope=}(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

The given coordinates : ( 5, 8 ) & ( 1, 1 )

Substitute the coordinates and simplify :

\begin{gathered} \text{ Slope=}(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1) \\ (x_1,y_1)=(5,8)(x_2,y_2)\text{ = (1,1)} \\ \text{ Slope=}\frac{1-8_{}}{1-5} \\ \text{ Slope=}(-7)/(-4) \\ \text{ Slope=}(7)/(4) \end{gathered}

Slope = 7/4

Answer : The slope of the line that passes through (5,8) and (1,1) is 7/4
