To round 36.012 to the nearest hundredth, we'll take the whole number and two digits after the decimal and hence we'll have;


36.012\Rightarrow36.01\text{ (rounded to the nearest hundredth)}

The digit "2" after the decimal would be done away with because it is not a significant number. Significant numbers (after a decimal) begins from 5 and above)
