We are to simplify

2^(-3)

From the the laws of indices,

\begin{gathered} x^(-m)\text{ =}(1)/(x^m) \\ \end{gathered}

Aplying this law to the question, we have

\begin{gathered} 2^(-3)=(1)/(2^3) \\ =(1)/(8) \\ \text{ The answrer is }(1)/(8) \end{gathered}
