we can write one hour like this:

1=(12)/(12)

then, substrating 5/12, we get:

(12)/(12)-(5)/(12)=(12-5)/(12)=(7)/(12)

therefore, the answer is 7/12 hour, because 12/12 - 5/12 = 7/12
