Write an equation in slope-intercept form for the line that passes through (0,4) and is parallel to y=-4x+5

Solution.

Given the line y = -4x+ 5

Compare the equation with line y = mx + c

m = -4.

That is the slope of the line is -4

The slope of the line parallel to the line y = -4x+ 5 is also -4

Hence, m = -4, given point = (0, 4)

The equation of the line can be calculated by


\begin{gathered} y-y_1=m(x-x_1) \\ \text{Where (x}_1,y_1)=(0,\text{ 4)} \\ \text{Hence, } \\ y-4=-4(x-0) \\ y-4=-4x+0 \\ y-4=-4x \\ y=-4x+4 \\ \end{gathered}

The answer is y = -4x + 4
