Answer:

the first player ran 310 yards,

the second player ran 1240 yards

Explanation:

Given,

first running back= a

second = b

1st condition,

a + b = 1550 ......(1)

2nd condition,

4a = b .......(2)

Solving by substitution method,

Substituting (2) in (1),

a + 4a = 1550

5a = 1550

a = 1550/5

a = 310 .......(3)

Substituting (3) in (2),

we get,

4(310) = b

b = 1240

So,

the first player ran 310 yards,

the second player ran 1240 yards
