Chris bought new art supplies. If the supplies cost $49.75 and sales tax is 5.5% how much did he pay for the art supply?

Supply cost = $49.75


\begin{gathered} \text{Sales tax = 5.5\% of \$49.75} \\ =\text{ }(5.5)/(100)\text{ x 49.75} \\ =\text{ }\frac{5.5\text{ x 49.75}}{100} \\ =\text{ }(273.625)/(100) \\ =\text{ \#2.73625} \end{gathered}

Chris paid = $49.75 + $2.73625

= $52.49
